Frequently Asked Questions
Below are a series of questions and answers that we thought might be useful when considering Proflax Natural superfood supplements for your dog.
Q. You label Proflax Natural as a 'superfood'. Why is this?
A. Ingredients in our products are in the indexed superfood categories. Flax oil is a renowned superfood as are some specific 'power' herbs.
As our products offer numerous health benefits, it was important for people to understand the difference between Proflax Natural and other condition specific products that are available.
Q: Are Proflax Natural products approved by a qualified vet?
A: All of our unique herbal formulas have been created by an independent UK conventional and holistic vet who specialises in herbal medicine. A holistic approach to your dog's health has been considered when choosing each of the formulas.
Q: Why are all natural products better for my dog?
A: Most pet foods contain only small amounts of natural, nutritious ingredients, and the rest of the ingredients are bulking agents which provide little or no nutritional value. Eating this type of food short term this wont cause too much of a problem but can cause health issues long term - similar to the problems that humans have when they eat processed or refined foods regularly. Eating pure and natural foods assists with the optimal functioning of the bodies biological system, thus minimising potential health problems.
Q: My dog is already taking fish oils and various herbs. What makes Proflax Natural products so different and why would I choose them instead?
A: We pride ourselves that our products offer numerous benefits, rather than just being 'problem' specific. What this means is that you get all of the fantastic benefits From a balanced percentage of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids from the flax oil (health of the heart, brain, metabolism, digestion, mobility, skin, coat) together with a vet approved unique synergistic formula of active herbal extracts which support not just the 'problem' but also help immunity, cleanse and detox the system of toxins, are antioxidant, antibacterial, have anti inflammatory and offer excellent nutritional support as the ingredients are full of vitamins, minerals, protein, fibre and phytonutrients. Some of the herbs used are also ‘adaptogens’ which are effective in promoting homeostasis, helping to balance psychological issues too. All of our products are 100% natural and fresh, are chemical and pesticide free and are DEFRA approved human food grade. Proflax Natural is also very easy to feed as it's an oil base so just pour over your dogs regular food.. no trying to feed tablets!
Q: Can I use two Proflax Natural products at the same time, such as Skin & Coat together with Bone & Joint?
A: We suggest that you choose the product which supports what your dog needs the most. All of the range contain vital nutrients and cleanse/detox the system, it's the herbal formulas that differ. So if your dog needs coat and skin support through the summer then choose the skin & coat formula. If your dog is also a working dog that also requires bone & joint support, you could alternate the two products daily so that they are getting each of the specific herbs to help with those ailments.
Q: My dog is really fussy? How will I know if he will like Proflax Natural?
A: We have tried Proflax Natural formulas on dogs of all shapes and sizes and 99% love the taste! A couple did take a day or two to get used to the oily texture and the ginger in the Bone & Joint formula but once they did they loved it. Flax oil has a nutty flavour and liquorice has a very sweet taste so this combination offers great palatability.
Q: Can some of the herbal ingredients that are listed in the blends be harmful to my dog? I have heard that Turmeric can be particularly hazardous? Is this true?
A: All of the herbs in our formulas have been carefully created and approved by an independent UK holistic vet who specialises in herbal medicine. The herbs have been chosen for their synergetic qualities and have been apportioned in their individual correct percentages so will not cause your dog any harm. However, if you are concerned about giving Proflax Natural then please ask your own vet for advice, taking along a list of the herbal ingredients from your chosen formula.
Q: Can I give Proflax Natural together with other supplements that my dog is taking?
A: If your dog is taking other herbal based supplements then we suggest that you give us a call to check. If the other supplements do not contain herbal ingredients then giving Proflax Natural should be completely safe. If you are unsure then please do give us a call or ask your own vet for advice.
Q: You state that each bottle contains between 20 - 25% active herbal ingredients. Why is this important?
A: Many pet foods or supplements contain small amounts of those all important beneficial ingredients. This means that for your dog to get the optimal health benefits it needs a higher percentage of the food/supplement needs to be consumed, or it needs to be taken for a longer period of time for results to be seen. Any dog food/supplement that has been through a manufacturing process generally loses it's active compounds and so doesn't offer the same benefits as pure, natural unprocessed ingredients as those found in Proflax Natural products. We add between 20 - 25% of active herbal extracts to each bottle to ensure that your dog is getting plenty of those all important beneficial ingredients and nutrients; vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients. Our active herbal extracts are of practitioner grade quality with a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 which means that they are high strength so powerful, but safe, for you dog.
Q: How much Proflax Natural should I give my dog and for how long?
A: You can add Proflax Natural to your dog's food on a long term basis to complete a balanced meal plan. From a nutritional point of view this will help to maintain optimal health and wellbeing, whether your dog is young or old. Wellbeing & Vitality is designed to maintain good working order of all biological functions so if you initially choose Bone & Joint to support your dog after an operation or injury, you may want to progress to Wellbeing & Vitality after your dog has recovered. Once a regular healthy, natural and balanced meal plan has been achieved, you may want to consider adding Proflax Natural to your dog's food every other day for ongoing nutritional support.
Mix 1ml of Proflax Natural to every 2kg of your dog’s body weight to their regular food, once daily, either in the morning or evening. Our bottles come with a handy measuring cup so you can make sure that you are feeding the correct amount.

Q: How do I store Proflax Natural?
A: We recommend that you store the bottle in a cool dark place, preferably the fridge, and once opened it will remain fresh for up to 8 weeks. Prior to opening every bottle has a guaranteed shelf life of 18 months. Date and batch number can be found on the bottom of every bottle.
Q: Can Proflax Natural be taken alongside other veterinary products that my dog is taking?
A: Our own holistic vet regards the herbal formulas in the Proflax Natural range to be safe to be taken together with veterinary products, however we do recommend that you consult your own vet with a list of herbal ingredients in your chosen formula to discuss this if you have any concerns. This is particularly the case if your dog is taking blood thinners nor blood sugar modulators.
Q: My dog has pancreas problems and I've heard that any oil based products should not be taken. Is this true?
A: There is research readily available which gives evidence that whether a dog is on a high grain diet OR meat based diet (which includes oils) pancreas problems can occur. There is also evidence that a high fat, high protein, low carb diet has many health benefits. We would always suggest that you consult your own vet or qualified animal nutritionist if in doubt whether to feed Proflax natural supplements.
Q. My dog is pregnant/nursing. Is Proflax Natural safe to give her?
A: There is some debate as to whether flax oil should be taken when pregnant or nursing due to it being high in lignans, however these studies have been done on humans rather than animals. A: As all of our ingredients are fresh and active, they get absorbed into the bloodstream immediately which means that benefits can be seen in a matter of days/weeks in some dogs, but in others, it may take a little longer. However, from day 1 your dog will benefit from the nutritional support that Proflax Natural products offer.
Q: Why do you use flax oil and not fish oil in your products?
A: Fish oil contains naturally occurring omega-3 essential fatty acids in the form of EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid). Flax oil is a natural, sustainable alternative to fish oil which consists of ALA (Alpha-linolenic Acid) and LA (Linoleic Acid).
EPA and DHA can be converted from ALA and LA using the body’s enzymes known as elongases and desaturases. There is some debate about the conversion of EPA and DHA in animals, but it is important to understand that this conversion factor largely depends on having adequate levels of essential nutrients from a healthy diet and good health of the digestive tract so that the enzymes are working efficiently. The active herbs used in the Proflax Natural formulas specifically address this supply of nutrients and digestive health, and as a result, your dog should have no problem converting the all important EPA and DHA fatty acids to their optimal states.
In addition, flax oil is most impressive when it comes to it’s omega 3 content, which at 60%, significantly exceeds that of fish oil. Flax oil has been well researched over time and is well known to have some amazing health benefits, such as optimising a healthy brain, heart, metabolism and digestion. Plus as flax oil is produced from flax seed which is a plant extract, it is ethically sourced.
Q: What benefits do the herbal blends give my dog?
A: We believe that there should be easy access to natural and effective products for animals that have no synthetic or potentially harmful ingredients added. Through our research we have found that products labelled ‘natural’ often included products that were not totally natural or pure in their origin. We wanted to offer 100% natural product that had ingredients that have been tried and tested and are well known for their therapeutic benefits and efficacy, so active herbs were chosen as core ingredients for the Proflax Natural range.
Herbs have been around for thousands of years and there have been many clinical studies done to validate their health benefits. They can can be used long term, have little or no side effects and are naturally extremely powerful, especially when used in their active state as Proflax Natural herbs are. All of our active herbal formulas are premium practitioner grade and are the finest quality to be found in the pet industry.
Q: Have the Proflax Natural range been independently tested for it’s purity?
A: Yes. An independent DEFRA approved laboratory have been working hard testing all of the Proflax Natural range using strict protocols. Intermittent testing over the shelf life of the products have been undertaken to ensure that the essential fatty acids remain effective, and that all of the products are free from pesticides, bacteria (e-coli/salmonella) or any other chemicals. This independent testing will continue in order to maintain our quality and service standards.
Q: Can Proflax Natural formulas be fed to other animals?
A: We have created our three formulas specifically for a dogs palate. We will be adding more products to our range in the near future which will include cats and horses. If you would like to keep in contact then please link to us on either Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
